The Trouble with Bananas

Am I the only one out there, or is it almost impossible to guess your family's banana consumption? I am either purchasing bananas three times a week because my family is eating them like crazy--in lunches, smoothies, snacks, etc. Or I decide to buy a bunch more than usual and they sit and sit like the brown bananas above. Don't get me wrong, this really isn't a rant. I dont mind throwing extra bananas in the freezer, or making an occasional banana nut bread with yummy chocolate chips (as is baking in the oven now while I type). I just wondered if I am alone in my inablity to guess. It drives me bananas!!

I deal with the same problem but often the bananas are too far gone for me to do anything useful with them. A few times, I have tried to entice my kids with them (Oh these are super sweet, just eat one) but no go. We are currently on a banana hiatus.

Been there. I've started buying two bunches at a time, usually, one mostly green, and one very slightly green. The slightly greens are usually perfect (not too sweet) within 24 hours and we all gobble them up. Then, by the time we're ready for more bananas in a couple of days, the green ones are ready. Once they get any brown spots I know they're too sweet to eat alone and, like you, throw them in a smoothie. I haven't had any in the freezer for awhile, but I hear they make a great Vegan ice cream (?).

It drives me nuts too. I only like the bananas for like one day of their ripeness cycle... and I can tolerate them with their ripeness the next day. But I always have lots of frozen smoothy bananas too. And have you ever bought the bananas at Costco that are HUGE? My kids totally end up wasting half the banana. Finally I see that others share in my grief.
